Trail Two – Eastriggs to Moffat
Our shortest trail, but through some of our most scenic countryside. Start the day with a visit to The Devil’s Porridge Museum to learn about the huge munitions factories here, then pass the former RAF Annan on the way to Moffat. This lovely market town is home to the Dowding memorial in Station Park, and is a great place to spend an afternoon wandering the streets and browsing the many small shops.
We recommend you take a tour through the hills from here, heading east from the town for Selkirk past the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall to St Mary’s Loch, before turning left toward Tweedsmuir. This narrow road takes you over the hills and past Megget, Tall and Fruid reservoirs. At Tweedsmuir, turn left for Moffat past the famous Devil’s Beeftub. It’s a run of around forty miles and nothing to do with military history, but has some of the best scenery the area has to offer.
