John Paul Jones raided Kirkcudbright and Whitehaven in 1778 before winning his most famous naval victory off the coast of Flamborough Head where he captured the HMS Serapis, a Royal Naval warship.

The cottage contains a full scale reconstruction of the captain’s cabin in Jones’ man o’ war the Bonhomme Richard, and a dramatic audio visual presentation of the Flamborough Head sea battle featuring the first-hand account of a young midshipman in Jones’ crew.
