Solway coast discovery Centre
The Solway Coast Discovery Centre is situated on Liddell Street, Silloth.
Incorporating a free exhibition detailing over of 10000 years Solway Coast Heritage, it showcases the Solway Coast, describing its wildlife, heritage, landscape, communities and outlines historic and future perspectives. It features displays about the people of the area – the Ancient Britons, Romans, Vikings and Medieval Monks who have lived here. The local industries, salt and wool production and farming all have their stories told.
A recent new addition is a diorama of Silloth docks, old railway marshalling yard and models of every railway station on the old Silloth to Carlisle line.
The Discovery Centre now has a full diorama of RAF Silloth from when it was operational during the years 1938 to 1960, alongside an exciting replica aircraft cockpit in which you can take control and simulate flying from RAF Silloth in a huge range of different aircraft.
